Paintworks move creates new growth opportunities for comms agency

Boutique communications and marketing agency 42group is looking forward to further growth after moving into new studio offices at The Paintworks.

Since its launch in May last year, the full-service agency has quietly been working with some of the biggest names in healthcare, science and technology, such as Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Lush Cosmetics and Chinese tech firm Lenovo, helping them tell their unique stories.

It expects its content-driven, journalistic approach to marketing and communications to fuel further growth as it settles into its new home at Studio 1.17 in Bristol’s Paintworks creative quarter.

42group managing director Lawrie Jones – who launched the agency with fellow journalist Gina Dyer – said: “When we created 42group we wanted to take a different approach to traditional marketing agencies.

“As journalists and marketing professionals we have worked almost exclusively with healthcare, science and technology organisations, which is why we specialise in this field. It’s what we know, and what we love.”

One of the first projects for 42group after the move will be in helping Bristol-based OVO Energy maximise its involvement with the Tour of Britain.

An official partner of the race itself, 42group has been employed to help deliver the energy giant’s Pedal Power event next weekend as well as providing content, web and social media support. The event promises to be the biggest single sporting event the city has ever seen.

The agency has three members of staff, but employs freelancers and contractors to help on larger projects. The ability to scale up and down is a key factor in its relationship with clients.

“Staying lean as an organisation allows us to keep our costs low, which is appreciated by our clients,” said Lawrie. “It also affords us a great degree of flexibility, allowing us to work with organisations and businesses that we want to work with and share our vision.”

He said paintworks provides everything the agency needs in an office location.

“We’re surrounded by some of the West’s most progressive and successful creative agencies, and have access to some amazing facilities.

“We hope the move will provide us with the chance to grow as an agency, and work with more leaders in healthcare, science and technology,” he said.

Also making the move to Paintworks this week is 42group’s sister agency Style Tribe, which focuses on content, social media and engagement activity for brands and business in the fashion and retail sector.

Style Tribe – which describes itself as a “small, but perfectly formed social media engagement agency” – has worked with brands such as Jaegar and Boohoo.com as well as having a key role in delivering Bristol Fashion Week.
